Why a sale dress fits poorly
Mass-market clothing is made for average figures — height 164–170 cm, chest 88–92 cm, waist 68–72 cm. If your measurements fall outside these ranges, the garment won't fit perfectly. Most often, problems occur in the shoulders (shoulder seam slips or pulls), in the chest area (wrinkles), and in length.
Typical fit defects
- Shoulder seam shifted: if the seam goes toward the back or chest, the dress 'pulls' and looks untidy. Fixed in 30 minutes.
- Wrinkles at the chest: appear when the chest volume is larger than the pattern allows. Need to release seam allowances (if available) or sew in a gusset.
